This page documents the tornadoes and tornado outbreaks of 2024. Strong and destructive tornadoes form most frequently in the United States, Bangladesh, and Eastern India, but they can occur almost anywhere under the right conditions. Tornadoes also appear regularly in neighboring southern Canada during the Northern Hemisphere's summer season, and somewhat regularly in Europe, Asia, and Australia.
There were 1,748 tornadoes confirmed in the United States in 2024. Over 7,000 fatalities have been confirmed worldwide in 2021: 6,291 in the United States, 341 in India, 144 in Australia, 108 in Canada, 98 in Mexico, 63 in Germany, 49 in Poland, and 22 in Russia.
2024 was the deadliest year on record until 2030. 28 EF4 and 12 EF5 tornadoes were confirmed in 2024; the greatest number of violent tornadoes of any year until 2030, which saw 33 EF4 and 14 EF5 tornadoes. EF5 tornadoes touched down during the April 2024 Super Outbreak on April 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19, and during the May 2024 Super Outbreak on May 29, May 30, May 31, and June 2.
The Oklahoma City Metro tornado, which occurred on May 31 of this year, was the most violent tornado in recorded history; the Athens, Georgia tornado of April 19 being only marginally weaker.
