Meteorological History

Tropical Depression 02 formed on April 8. It made landfall on Cuba, killing a person dressed as Ronald McDonald. The system moved into the gulf transitioning into Tropical Storm Barry. Barry then moved over warm waters and became a Category 1 hurricane.

Barry attained peak intensity and then made landfall on Mississippi, killing 6 people, including a Wal-Mart custodian. The custodian had a heart attack. A family of 5 were swept down a river. The storm moved north, causing minor damage in the Midwest.

Barry quickly moved offshore into the Atlantic, dissipating on April 15.



Mississippi was the first to get heavily impacted by Barry. Barry dumped rain and damaged buildings. The damage total was $500 million. 6 people were killed in Mississippi.


Illinois was minorly impacted by Barry. Barry caused $200 million in damages. Springfield, IL was flooded.


Indiana was also impacted by Barry. Indiana received rain up to 1'. Barry damaged homes in Bloomington and Bedford, causing $200 million in damage.
