The Great Hypercane of 5235 was a devastating tropical cyclone that lasted almost 2 months in the Atlantic basin. The hypercane affected numerous countries, and caused trillions of dollars in damage, as well as hundreds of thousands of fatalities, marking it as by far the most significant storm on record in the basin. With its 54.5 day duration, the system was one of the longest known tropical cyclones of its time, and certainly the most intense. Originating from a series of tropical waves that emerged from Africa in between Auguust 10-12, the waves quickly merged and gained sufficient organisation, and became a tropical depression on August 12, before quickly intensifying into a hypercane as it moved across the basin. Moving up the US East Coast, the hypercane weakened, before turning south into hte Atlantic again and reintensifying. From here, the system did this again, before finally moving out into the Atlantic and weakening, becoming extratropical about a day before hitting the UK as an extratropical cyclone. Once the system moved over the UK, it weakened as it merged with a larger developing system to its northwest.
