The Richland, Georgia Tornado was a strong EF4 tornado that touched down in the little town of Richland, Georgia on December 28, 2017. The tornado was active from 9:30 AM - 10:15 AM.


Meteorological History[]

At 9:15 AM, December 28, 2017, as a huge rainstorm was hitting the south and The National Weather Service noticed a thunderstorm forming in Richland, Georgia that had tornadic characteristics. A tornado warning was then issued at 9:25 AM. 5 minutes later, a tornado touched down and very unusually became a wedge tornado in less than 7 minutes!! The tornado reached Downtown Richland at 9:45 AM and went through it until 10:00 AM. The tornado destroyed a lot of houses, buildings, a baptist church, and many more. The tornado finally dissipated in the town of Preston at 10:15 AM. 7 people were killed.
