On Valentines Day, 2017, a series of Earthquakes ranging from 2.1 to 4.0, coupled with reports of a minor Steam Plume from Mount Spurr caused the Alaskan Volcano Observatory to raise the Alert status to Orange from Green, indicating there was at least a slight probability/possibility for an Eruption within any given time.

At about mid-day the same day, Thermal Imaging was conducted on the Mountain, and it was found it was running 195 to 220*c Hotter than usual, at the same time, it was still producing a minor amount of steam and minor earthquakes.

One of which caused a slight landslide near the SSW side of the Volcano..
